Abstract
Serious consideration is being given to proposals for national health insurance. From the point of view of the aged, these proposals are seen as extensions of the Medicare experience, which is primarily medically and disease oriented. The health needs of the aged are identified as primarily chronic which require health-social services in addition to medical services; five types of health-social services are identified as being vital to inclusion in any national health insurance proposal which includes the aged.
