Abstract
Examples of work published recently in Dalton Transactions are used to illustrate some emerging themes and trends in the inorganic chemistry of solids at the turn of the millennium. Among the topics surveyed are the synthesis of new classical solids, especially by low temperature methods; organic–inorganic composite lattices, including inclusion compounds; supramolecular organisation and directed synthesis, and new molecular compounds with unusual collective electronic properties, such as superconductivity and magnetism. Keywords
