The Effect of Injury on the Humidity Reaction of Drosophila melanogaster

Abstract
When injured and uninjured wild type males of D. melanogaster were kept in indentical containers with food, a significantly greater frequency of injured flies was found on the food surface. Concentration of radiosodium, fed as a tracer, indicated that rate and extent of feeding was nearly the same in both injured and uninjured flies. When injured and uninjured flies were placed in identical alternative humidity chambers (with the absence of food) a significantly greater frequency of injured flies was found on the side of the chamber containing wet air indicating the difference in behavior involved a humidity reaction.
