Abstract
A glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase from cell-free extracts of Leuconostoc mesenteroides has been purified partially. The enzyme is similar to the same enzymes obtained from yeast or Escherichia coli, except for a non-specific pyridine nucleotide requirement. The role of this enzyme is discussed in relation to a fermentative hexosemonophosphate pathway as distinct from the classical Meyerhof-Embden glycolytic scheme. Keywords
