Abstract
Three reed canarygrass hays fertilized with 0,100, or 200 lb. of nitrogen per acre and 2d cutting alfalfa hay were fed to dairy heifers in a total collection digestion trial. The reed canarygrass hay fertilized with 200 lb. of N per acre was superior or equal to alfalfa hay in the digestibility of protein, fiber, ether extract, and energy, and in the amounts of total digestible nutrients (TDN) and digestible energy (DE). The relationship between DE and TDN is expressed in the linear regression equation Y = 731.23 + 31.30 X [Y = DE (cal/g): X = TDN (%)].Keywords
