Abstract
In 1980 and 1981 observations established the common occurrence of S. longirostris in waters of Djibouti. In Jan., 1981, a specimen in very good condition permitted the 1st description of the external morphology, color pattern and osteology of the species in this part of the Indian Ocean, establishing a basis for comparison with Pacific and Atlantic forms. S. longirostris of the Aden Gulf is characterized by: relatively small size, dark pigmentation of the lower lip markedly broadening in the posterior half of the lower jaw, and a pigmental flipper band joining the angle of the mouth (not the eye). The validity was questioned of the form called the Arabian dolphin Morzer-Bruyns (1971) which is probably one of the forms of S. longirostris in the northwestern Indian Ocean. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
