Abstract
This paper examines cultural, institutional, and motivationalfactors which have produced acceptance of the human relations approach in industrial organizations. The unique relationship existing between the postwar emergence of human relations and academic sociology is analyzed for its simultaneous impacts on the ideology and on the development and institutionalization of sociology itself. Keywords
