Abstract
Optical and magnetic properties of transition elements (ndN and nfN ions) are re-analysed. The aim of this work is to see how far a unique set of phenomenological parameters, those introduced by crystal-ligand field theory described on the ∣αSLJM> kets, can describe the experimental data. Keywords
