Abstract
Surface wave microwave excitation structures can be used to produce relatively long plasma columns at atmospheric pressure. Characteristics of this new versatile plasma are given. Applications such as trace gas analysis by optical emission spectroscopy, production of flames of various compositions, welding, and spectral lamps are presented. Keywords
