Abstract
The report describes methods for calculation of the velocities and thermodynamic properties of flow fields through and around high altitude rocket plumes. The main effort is directed at obtaining a good representation of both the jet flow from rocket motors and the shock-mixing layers in the frontal regions; the calculation then proceeds downstream using standard methods. A comparison with available observations shows good agreement with overall plume dimensions as determined by the flow-field analysis. It may be concluded that the analysis provides a sound gas-dynamic description which may be used as a basis for investigation of the plasma and chemi-electric properties of high altitude plumes. Keywords
