Abstract
The paper deals with the assignment of the vibration quantum numbers of the violet degrading system of the magnesium oxide bands. The frequencies of vibration for infinitesimal amplitude are found to be 716 and 751 for the upper (initial) and lower (final) states respectively. The heat of dissociation as calculated from the extrapolation of the curve is nearly 5.8 volts.
