Abstract
To the Editor: We agree with Teutsch et al. (Feb. 9 issue)* that although hypoglycemia contributed to only 3 of 35 deaths among diabetic patients using continuous subcutaneous insulin-infusion pumps, these deaths are potentially preventable and thus excessive. It is important to recognize any mechanism by which severe hypoglycemia may develop in spite of adequate education and medical supervision. We therefore report the inappropriate bolus administration of insulin by a patient confused because of neurogly-copenia.An intelligent, well-adjusted 28-year-old woman, in whom insulin-dependent diabetes had developed at the age of 15 years, was changed from conventional therapy to continuous subcutaneous . . .Keywords
