Wolfram Syndrome Not HLA Linked

Abstract
To the Editor: Recent studies have suggested that a gene for susceptibility to the insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus commonly seen in children is closely linked to the genes for HLA on chromosome 6.1 Studies of HLA in families with two or more affected siblings have been interpreted as consistent with both a dominant2 and a recessive3 , 4 mode of inheritance of insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus with a low penetrance in both modes. An unusual inherited form of diabetes in juvenile patients is the association of diabetes mellitus with diabetes insipidus, optic atrophy, and neural deafness (DIDMOAD or Wolfram syndrome).
