Abstract
Examination of selected corn inbreds in a disease nursery revealed that root rot and stalk rot are successive phases of a disease which begins in the roots and later spreads into the stalk. Stalk rot first appeared on the inbred of early maturity, later on the inbred of medium maturity, and still later on the inbreds of late maturity. The stalk rot phase of the disease did not occur until the inbreds had reached a late stage in their development. Keywords
