Abstract
The imported crucifer weevil, Baris lepidii Germar, has been regarded as a minor pest of such crucifers as horseradish, turnip, rape, cabbage, cauliflower, radish, and watercress in central and southern Europe and the USSR. This insect was detected in the United States in May 1977, by entomologists of the Illinois Natural History Survey who were investigating reports of larval damage to roots of horseradish in Illinois (Bouseman et al. 1978). A subsequent survey of horseradish in Madison and St. Clair Co. revealed that weevil populations were widespread and in some instances had caused reductions in yield and quality. In addition to its occurrence in the horseradish, we also have found the weevil in a field of commercial turnips in Madison Co., Ill.Keywords
