Abstract
When iron dextran was injected intravenously into rabbits, the excess remained in the serum until sufficient liver apoferritin was produced to combine with the Fe. In a 24 hour period 20-30 mg of Fe is incorporated into ferritin. Saccharated iron oxide is rapidly deposited in the insoluble form. With iron dextran, no appreciable Fe is deposited in the insoluble form until the ferritin Fe of the liver reaches 150-200 mg (more rapidly, the larger the dose). Keywords
