Abstract
Interference between Coulomb and nuclear excitations for inelastic deuteron scattering has been observed for a number of nuclei. Most data are in qualitative, although not quantitative, agreement with collective-model distorted-wave Born-approximation predictions of constructive Coulomb-nuclear interference; excitation functions for the first states of nuclei, however, show destructive interference not predicted by the collective model.
