Abstract
A detailed study on nitrification of Toujiang River is described in this paper. The relationship between the nitrification rate constant Kn and the factors affecting the nitrification process is studied. The temperature effect on the nitrification process is evaluated and the value of temperature coefficient was checked in experiments. Both the total disappearance rate of ammonia‐N and the nitrification in Toujiang River obey first‐order kinetics. The Nitrogenous Oxygen Demand (NOD) is determined and the NOD coefficient fn is estimated in the laboratory. It is the first time in China that a nitrification process has been studied in such detail for a river system. Keywords
