Barrier creams and gloves play an important role in the prevention of contact dermatitis, and various in vivo and in vitro methods have been developed to investigate their efficacy. However, their actual benefit in the workplace is still being debated. This article reviews both the benefits and adverse effects of barrier creams and gloves. Keywords
