Abstract
Describes a simple and inexpensive light source for schlieren photography which has been used for combustion ignition studies. A pulsed infrared laser diode provides sufficient light for high-speed video photography at rates as high as 12000 frames per second. For experimenters short of bench space, money or electrical power the laser diode provides an elegant solution in the choice of a pulsed light source. Keywords
