Abstract

Measurements on the polarized-proton capture reaction

{}^{15}N (p, γ_{0}) {}^{16}O

indicate a broad

E 2

resonance which lies above the giant

E 1

resonance of

{}^{16}O

. The measurements show that the

E 2

radiation for the (

γ, p_{0}

) channel of

{}^{16}O

exhausts approximately 30% of the quadrupole sum rule.
