Abstract
X-ray photoelectron energy distribution in the valence band has been measured for the system (Cu x Ni 1- x )S 2 and for ZnS 2 with the pyrite-type crystal structure. Intensity difference between Cu 0.25 Ni 0.75 S 2 and NiS 2 spectra shows three peaks, whose energies correspond to sulphur 3p, cationic t 2g and e g bands. The FWHM of resolved e g peak is larger than that of t 2g . The spectrum of the valence band in ZnS 2 shows a sharp peak of Zn 3d and a broad S 3p band which has three humps on it. These humps are discussed compared with the result of a band calculation. Keywords
