Abstract
To the Editor: Progressive dementia is an increasingly recognized manifestation of AIDS-associated neurologic syndromes,1 2 3 4 5 and direct infection of the central nervous system by HTLV-III/LAV has been demonstrated.2 , 4 5 6 Almost all the patients involved had AIDS or AIDS-related complex or belonged to groups at high risk for AIDS.We wish to report an HTLV-III/LAV infection of the brain in a 57-year-old man with progressive dementia that was diagnosed as Alzheimer's disease.
