A small funnel-shaped isolator, drawn from glass tubing, is described. By attaching this to the end of the low power objective of the microscope, single spores, 2-3 u or larger, may be isolated from a suspension spread on the surface of a thin agar plate. Separate spores are detected by viewing the surface of the agar through the glass tip. By lowering the objective a ring is cut around the spore. The separated disk of agar on which the spore lies may then be transferred to fresh medium. Approx. size of tip: length 7 mm., large diam. 6.5 mm., small diam. 1.5 mm.
