Abstract
In view of the relative lack of developmental studies on the Psocoptera, the present investigation of Liposcelis divergens, a common representative of the order, has been undertaken in order to supplement a study of the embryology of this insect (Goss 1952, 1953) and to give a better understanding of the process of its reproduction. This particular species of book louse is exclusively partenogenetic, a fact which renders its method of oogenesis more interesting, especially since this process can now be compared with that of other members of the order which reproduce bisexually. Perhaps of further significance are the results of a study of the chromosome numbers of various species in the order, which indicate the possibility that all psocids possess the same basic number of chromosomes. Keywords
