Abstract
De Quervain''s disease (stenosing fibrous tendovaginitis at the radial styloid process) has characteristic X-ray appearances on films taken with adequate soft-tissue detail. Two representative cases were reported out of a series of 47. The signs were fully described for the first time. They consists of 3 elements, a convex bulge of the cutis line in the region of the radial styloid process in the postero-anterior film; thickening of one or both of the tendon sheaths of abductor pollicis longus and extensor pollicis brevis, with or without synovial fluid; and the presence of edema and thickening of the cutis line in the acute cases. There were no changes in the underlying bone, which was in contrast to some of the previous reports. There may be no visible radiographic signs when only one of the small aberrant tendon slips is involved.
