Abstract
The diagnosis of bacterial endocarditis due to N. perflava was made on a patient following placement of a graft in the ascending aorta and a prosthetic aortic valve. The patient''s sudden death due to a break in the graft sutures demonstrated vegetation on the prosthetic valve ring. N. perflava is ordinarily an oral saprophyte and is a rare cause of infection of any type. This is the 1st case of N. perflava endocarditis following heart surgery. The potential danger of organisms ordinarily of low pathogenicity in post-cardiotomy endocarditis is stressed. Keywords
