Abstract
Summary 115 cases of Ankylosing Spondylitis in Israel, a country with sub-tropic climate, described and followed-up in detail, show that course, progression etc. is similar to those of countries with non-tropical climates. The early onset of the disease, even in some cases in the first decade of life, is striking in this series, the first symptom being in the overwhelming majority low back pain, the first sign bilateral sacroiliac involvement. The authors come to the conclusion that Ankylosing Spondylitis is not to be regarded as a sub-division of Rheumatoid Arthritis, but as a morbid entity of its own. Keywords
