Abstract
The radical BO3 2–, prepared by the action of γ-rays on calcium carbonate doped with borate anions, has been identified by its e.s.r. and optical absorption spectra. The principal values of the g- and A-tensors are g∥= 2·0080, g⊥= 2·0127, a∥=–12·6 gauss, and a⊥=–8·3 gauss respectively. The structure and mechanism of formation of this centre are discussed, and a comparison made with the isoelectronic radicals CO3 – and NO3.Keywords
