Abstract
Recent calculations by Van der Voort (see ibid., vol.7, p.L395 (1974)) on vacancy migration in UO2 are shown to be erroneous. The predicted high activation energies for this process are due to fundamental inadequacies in the lattice model. The suggested agreement between such results and experiment is itself based on a misinterpretation of the published diffusion data. Transport studies on fluorite oxides are briefly discussed and are shown to be compatible with the high mobility of the vacancies suggested by Catlow and Lidiard (1974).Keywords
