The Systemic Approach to Cancer Therapy

Abstract
The list of neoplastic diseases responsive to some form of systemic therapy has lengthened in the past 10 years to the point where benefit can now be expected in the majority of cancer categories. In three entities, long-term tumor-free survival appears to have been achieved through chemotherapy. The authors describe the background of these advances and delineate the many fronts of current research.
