Abstract
The author surveys all definitions, concepts, etiologies and pathogenies set forth by different authors about functional dysphonia. From this description it arises that there are 2 opinions regarding the origin of these dysphonies: (1) The mechanical theory, which attributes the functional dysphonia to an incorrection in the vocal production, and (2) The psychogenic theory attributes it to psychical troubles. Both theories are right, the error lies on the fact that each calls functional dysphonia a similar syndrome, but a syndrome whose etiology is different. To avoid this confusion the author suggests distinguishing the phonoponosis from the phononeurosis. Undoubtedly sometimes they go along together but they also are intermingled with infectious, allergic, constitutional, endocrine, etc. processes. The phoniatre must well distinguish one syndrome from the other, to set up a suitable treatment. Keywords
