Abstract
To the Editor. —Tears were streaming down his face as he entered my office for our first meeting two years ago. After standing at the entrance to my consultation room for a few moments, he forded a small puddle of tears to avoid getting his shoes wet. I immediately recognized this dapper young man as a contact lens problem as he began his tale. His story caused my previously unbridled enthusiasm for those little corneal plastic appliances to be somewhat dampened—not overly so, but just enough to cause me to squirm a little every time a "lovely young thing" wants to join the growing throng of some 10 million Americans who wish to banish their spectacles forever.
