Abstract
The authors review object-oriented systems from the user's point of view and discuss problems that need solving. They describe how characteristic features of object-oriented systems can provide a foundation for various computational tasks. In particular, they address the impact of object models on programming environments, expert systems and databases. Although they use a relatively simple example for illustration, they believe that the same concepts and techniques can be applied to general applications. The authors also discuss related problems and highlight important research directions. Keywords
