Abstract
The nature of the boundary layer interaction between an accretion disc and central star is investigated. Possible processes by which the star applies a torque on the inner disc are discussed, and simple arguments are used to assess how the parameters of the disc and star affect the nature and location of the interaction. Observational consequences for cataclysmic variables and T Tauri stars are discussed. Keywords
