Abstract
Described is an apparatus producing a ducted flow of air or gas which contains a controlled unipolar ion concentration. Included are flow regulators and a filter system that passes only particles smaller than 0.05 μ. Ionization is produced by a radioactive source. Control of ion concentration is best achieved by diluting the ionized flow with nonionized gas which has bypassed the ionizing unit. Electrical methods of controlling ion levels have also been examined. Ion concentrations up to about 106 ions/cm3 (1000 times ambient) are obtained with the radioactive sources presently in use. Keywords
