Abstract
This paper examines the hypothesis that attitudinal differences between age groups will vary by type of community. Comparisons are made of 24 attitude scale scores made by 224 young-old persons (aged 55 to 74) and 42 old-old persons (age 75 and over) living in an urban center and a rural community. Substantial differences were found between the scores of the age groups in the uirban center but only slight differences were found in the rural county. Several hypotheses are suggested to explain the attitudinal differences found in the two communities. Keywords
