Abstract
Hypophysectomized rats were injected daily for 10 days with a dil. NaOH soln. of 10 or 20 [gamma] of crystalline thyroxin. They were then fasted 18 hrs. and fed glucose sufficient for max. absorption in 4 hrs. Detns. were made of the rate of absorption, of liver and muscle glycogen and blood sugar, and of the O2 consumption and R.Q. during the absorption period. The glucose absorption rate of the hypophysectomized animals was restored to normal by thyroxin adm. in dosage somewhat smaller than that required to restore the metabolic rate. Such dosage did not improve the maintenance of carbohydrate stores during fasting, or change from that in normals the proportionate disposition of the absorbed glucose in hypophysectomized rats. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
