Preparation, Spectral and Thermal Studies of Some Oxovanadium (IV) Complexes of 4-Aminoantipyrine

Abstract
4-Aminoantipyrine (AApy) complexes of oxovanadium (IV), such as VOX2.AApy (X = Cl, Br, I, No3, NCS or 0.5C2O4) and VO (ClO4)2.2AApy have been prepared and characterized by chemical analysis, conductance, molar weight, magnetic moments measurements, infrared and electronic spectra. The magnetic moments of the complexes indicate no metal-metal interactions between vanadium atoms. Conductance measurements suggest the 1:2 electrolytic nature of the perchlorate complex, while the others behave as non-electrolytes. I.R. spectra indicate that AApy behaves as a bidentate ligand bonding through N(amino) and O(carbonyl). The studies show that the complexes are five-coordinate and may have tetragonal pyramidal structures. The thermal properties of some representative complexes have also been studied.
