Abstract
A recent theory by Molvig et al. on particle transport in turbulent fields with overlapping island structure is critically reviewed. An inconsistency in the derivation of the diffusion coefficient D from the assumption of a Wiener process is pointed out and corrected. In the region ΔΩ • τK ≪ 1 the results if properly interpreted are unchanged. For ΔΩ • τK ≪ 1 the results differ (ΔΩ = particle velocity/mode correlation length, τK = "randomization" time). Computer experiments are performed to support the critical arguments
