Abstract
Petersen disk, nylon streamer, and jaw ring tags were applied to striped bass,Roccus saxatilis, in the Chesapeake Bay area in 1957. The primary objective was to determine the tag most suitable for a study of movement and in estimating population size. Tag return data were analyzed statistically to test comparative merits of tags. Petersen disk tags were returned selectively from gillnets in some size classes of fish as compared to nylon streamer and jaw ring tags. There was little difference in the suitability of jaw ring and streamer tags to requirements of the study. The streamer tag was chosen only because it was easier to obtain than the jaw ring tag.
