Abstract
The studies of ultrasonic velocity in solution of cerium soaps (valerate and caprylate) in a mixture of 60% benzene and 40% methanol (V/V) have been used to evaluate various acoustic parameters. The conductometric measurements have been used to study the premicellar association, formation of micelles, molar conductance at infinite dilution, degree of ionisation and ionisation constant of cerium soaps. The results show that the critical micellar concentration (CMC) decreases with increasing chainlength of fatty acid constituent of the soap molecule and these soaps behave as weak electrolytes in dilute solutions. Keywords
