Penetration of Hypervelocity Projectiles into Aluminum Multisheet Stacks

Abstract
Aluminum multisheet stackes were penetrated by nylon projectiles with a velocity up to about 4.4 km/s. Penetration depth, size of the hole produced on each sheet of the stacks, and recovery rate of the projectiles were investgated as a function of the impact velocity and the spacing between the sheets, and for some of these quantities, empirical formulae are provided.
