Abstract
To the Editor: Despite a striking similarity between the symptoms associated with hypothyroidism and those occurring in premenstrual syndrome (PMS), including dysregulation of temperature, weight gain, lethargy, irritability, moodiness, and anxiety, recent overviews of PMS implicate almost every hormonal system but the thyroid.1 2 3 We have undertaken two studies of private patients to investigate a possible connection between PMS and thyroid dysfunction. A total of 66 women were studied, of whom 54 were found (before thyroid testing) to meet our criteria for PMS: all spontaneously reported irritability, moodiness, bloating, fatigue, and cravings for sweets at least one week before the beginning . . .Keywords
