Abstract
Many children with mental health problems present to pediatricians in medical settings. These problems are often complex psychosomatic symptoms requiring careful interdisciplinary evaluation and management. Often pediatricians call on psychologists to act as consultants in this process. This paper describes three emerging models by which this liaison may occur. The models are described as Resource, Process, and Process-Educative Consultation. The basic mechanisms and objectives of each model are described and their applications are discussed. It is proposed that consultation-liaison skills are a necessary component in the professional repertoire of the pediatric psychologist. Keywords
