The Acute Behavioural Effects of Solvent Exposure

Abstract
A detailed case report is given of a patient who developed an unusual delusional illness with symptoms resembling schizophrenia. The patient was exalted and thought that he was God. There had been a prodromal period of some days before the acute episode on the day of admission. Investigation showed that he had been deliberately sniffing toluene, which was used as an industrial solvent in his work in the rubber processing industry.
