PULMONARY ACTINOMYCOSIS

Abstract
Human actinomycosis appears to be relatively uncommon in this country. Sanford and Voelker1could collect reports of only 670 cases that occurred in this country, forty-two of which were in children under 15 years of age. A survey of the literature on this subject reveals a scarcity of reports of this disease, and one is almost led to believe that actinomycosis, particularly in infants and children, is extremely rare. Recently, Gittings and Thorpe2reported a case of pulmonary actinomycosis in a boy, aged 5 years. Lindsay3found the disease in an 8 year old child, and Erving's4analysis of actinomycosis in 100 American cases revealed the condition in a child 6 years of age.
