Abstract
A liquid-liquid extraction procedure is described for the separation of certain antibacterial substances (hexylresorcinol, chloroxylenol, oxine and chloramphenicol) from their solutions after contact with bacteria, before spectrophotometric analysis. The choice of a suitable organic solvent for a particular drug-bacteria system is discussed. The use of the proposed extraction method permitted concurrent determination of the drug and cell exudate (λ max approximately 260 mμ) in a single solution. The accuracy and validity of the method is demonstrated. Keywords
