Abstract
The desired attributes of tree species grown for fuelwood are discussed. Such trees should be well suited to the climate and soil of the area, cheap and easy to establish, fast growing, amenable to management in woodlots, capable of regenerating naturally and should yield firewood with good burning properties. Tab-ularised information is given about species recommended for fuelwood production in South Africa. Keywords
