Abstract
Excitation of the Br2 A 3Π(1u) state by 532 nm radiation was examined in a low temperature (15 K) argon matrix. Fluorescence polarization anisotropies were measured in order to assign the absorption system by which the A state was excited. Previous investigators had suggested that the A state was populated by B→A transfer following absorption by the B–X system. The present study demonstrates unambiguously that the A state is populated by direct A–X absorption. Keywords
