Photoselection study of the Br2 AX emission system in an argon matrix

Abstract
Excitation of the Br2 A 3Π(1u) state by 532 nm radiation was examined in a low temperature (15 K) argon matrix. Fluorescence polarization anisotropies were measured in order to assign the absorption system by which the A state was excited. Previous investigators had suggested that the A state was populated by BA transfer following absorption by the BX system. The present study demonstrates unambiguously that the A state is populated by direct AX absorption.
